BOOK REVIEW: Why the Lies about Environmental Issues? (Kunihiko Takeda, Senyosha)

The first edition of "Why the Lies about Environmental Issues?" was 8000 copies, but with the fifth edition which came into print on the 25th April, the present total number of copies published is 18000.
Little is more harmful to the environment than recycling plastic (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles, and dioxins have been victimized by being portrayed as deadly poisons. The author, a scientist, reveals one after another the lies concealed behind environmental problems.
"On 'Takijin's No Holds Barred Gossip Committee', a program broadcast by Yomiuri Television on the 25th March, the author himself presented the content of the work. From the following day the program caused an instant reaction in other areas where it had been shown, in particular Kansai, but also central Japan, Kyushu, Shikoku and Hokkaido.
"The first time we got in 10 volumes, then, planning to sell it together with A. Goa's "Inconvenient Truths," we at once held 30 at the ready. After that, the presentation on television led to a sudden increase in enquiries, and it sold out completely in one go. We got in another 100 copies, but these also sold out in just over a week. The title's impact and the cheap price helped, but the TV broadcast's influence, not surprisingly, was big. We would like to use this opportunity to attract interest in other books relating to environmental issues." (Kinokuniya bookshop, Hokkaido.)
Most buyers are middle-aged or elderly people of both sexes, but there are also customers who wish to give the book to friends to read. Similar books and the author's previous publications also played a part. (Asahiya bookshop, Osaka.)
