Keisuke Sone's Deep Under Cover Wins 53rd Edogawa Rampo Prize
The Japan Mystery Writers' Association, Kodansha Publishing and Fuji Television honored Keisuke Sone's Deep Under Cover (published by Kodansha) as the winner of the 53rd Edogawa Rampo Prize at an awards ceremony held in Tokyo on September 21.
"I'd like to express my gratitude to my parents for supporting me when I was an unemployed, good-for-nothing," said Sone, who was born in 1967. After dropping out of college, he held a variety of jobs including sauna employee and comic coffee shop manager while working on his first novel, which he began two years ago. Deep Under Cover is his second full-length publication. He also received the grand prize for Short Stories in Japanese Horror this year. Selection Committee Member Yuichi Shinpo joked amid the cheers as he presented the award, saying, "The royalty on prize-winning works now is 10%. When I won (1991), it was 8%. Congratulations!"
