Cell phone site for "Gakken Comics" Launched
Gakken is launching "Gakken Comics," a cell phone portal site for the comics it publishes, in cooperation with DG Mobile, a subsidiary of Digital Garage which develops projects for third generation cell phones.
The site begins distribution service through AU on September 20, and expands to Docomo and Soft Bank in October. Monthly user fees are 315 or 525 yen, and the amount which a user can read will depend on the fee. Gakken is aiming for 20,000 subscribers in the first year and sales of 10,000,000 yen.
The works distributed will be divided into six categories including young boys, young girls, young adults, and war chronicles. The site will begin with twenty titles including Chikako Mitsuhashi's Little Love Story, Makoto Tateno's POPS, and Kaori Ohashi's SOX. Ultimately the site will support 100 titles.
