"The Soul of Satsuma" With Illustrations By Takahiko Inoue Garners Attention
Sog Horei Publishing is garnering attention for its recent publication, The Soul of Satsuma: The Truth about the Great Men Who Laid the Foundations of Japan! The book has impressive backing, including illustrations by Takahiro Inoue, also known as "Vagabond" and "Slam Dunk," and the endorsement of Kazuo Inamori, Chairman Emeritus of Kyocera Corp.
The authors of this work are Kichitaro Saigo, Takafumi Saigo, Toshihiro Ookubo, and Nobuhisa Shimazu. As one might guess from their names, they are descendents of Takamori Saigô, Toshimichi Ookubo, and Nariaki Shimazu, three highly influential nineteenth-century samurai from Satsuma. Edited by the Satsuma General Research Institute Chest, this volume is a collection of anecdotes obtained from historical archives or passed down through the generations - information which can be unearthed only by descendents. The book offers a new message to the present generation, a fresh perspective on how these great men from Satsuma in the last days of the Tokugawa Shogunate came to be, and how they displayed leadership which stirred a nation.
Inoue and Inamori, also natives of Satsuma, readily agreed to cooperate in this project. It is extremely rare for Inoue to draw illustrations for any work other than his own.
