Hiromi Wada: an ordinary Japanese girl; growing up, never tops at anything. But her life changes when she joins Britannica. She chooses sales simply to be happy earning lots of money. As a new hire, she struggles with a whole new world.
Gradually she finds her own way of connecting with people: by smiling all day, sharing their dreams and excitement, learning to be a pacesetter for both customers and co-workers. While staying honest - with others and herself - she keeps discovering new techniques and guiding principles.
In her Britannica career, Wada achieved the second-highest sales position of 142 branches worldwide. Promoted to manager, then branch manager, at only 28, she became the youngest district manager. Surviving even the company's massive layoffs, she became the youngest sales manager at Britannica's head office.
What made her a shining star are the rules she follows every day: "Don't crush dissent; create assent." "Don't think of it as 'a deal' but as 'succeeding together.'" "Good sales don't come from the 'For You' spirit alone"... Wada's lively episodes will touch not only those in sales, but anyone contemplating their jobs or lives.

Editorial Review

The best part of this book is that the author, Hiromi Wada, describes herself so honestly and naturally as an ordinary girl. That gives hope to everyone who has a dream but doesn't know how to make it come true. Her stories are so lively, so real. She has been through the negative side of life, suffering comparison with her can-do-anything sister and depression over her mother's death. She understands customers' negative side and listens to them. When an older male subordinate told her he'd never admit she's his boss, she even cried and cried for a while. (It was reassuring to know that she too cries once in a while when she's blue. She gains strength from tears.) She did no more than just keep going forward and be positive. In this book, she proves that you don't have to be a superman or superwoman to accomplish your life goals.
