Synopsis
This book, "The Over-Evolved Brain" was given as a brain science lecture to eight Japanese high-school students living in the USA, and ever since has been a mainstay in Japanese newspapers and magazines. It has sold exceptionally well for a science text, with more than 230,000 copies sold (including the lecture transcript and the new book), and there are plans for "The Over-Evolved Brain 2" in 2009.
Hot topics appearing in top scientific journals such as Science or Nature are expertly explained, such as the remote control mouse, the monkey with a robotic arm, or research on brain tremors which can accurately predict whether the answer to a question is correct or not before it is given. About the Author
Yuji Ikegaya was born in 1970, and is a Doctor of Pharmacology. He is an associate professor at the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Tokyo. His fields of expertise are neurophysiology and systems pharmacology. His research into the hippocampus looks into the health and ageing processes of the brain. He is the recipient of The Japanese Pharmacological Society Academic Scholarship, The Japan Neuroscience Society Young Investigator Award, and The Pharmaceutical Society of Japan Award, was a visiting academic at Colombia University from 2002 to 2005, and has published many articles in noted journals such as Science, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, USA.
