Cure (Tentative title)
Synopsis
Ryusuke Hikawa is a 36 year old surgeon working in a university hospital said to be the very best for cancer care. As his nickname 'The Hand of God' suggests, Hikawa is a superb doctor.
One day, he gets a phone call from one of the hospital's neonatal nurses, Manako Shirakawa, whom he has never met. She says that she can visualise people's auras. "Your voltage is declining," she tells him, "and if you ignore it, you will die."
On the advice of Morita, one of the interns, Hikawa has a check up, only to find that he has liver cancer and has less than a year to live. His colleagues urge him to undergo thorough tests, but he refuses, determined to somehow manage on his own.
Having decided to leave the hospital, Hikawa meets various people; an old friend who is now conducting research on human cell stimulation in a zero magnetic field environment, a young businessman with terminal cancer who is undergoing cutting-edge therapy with only a 1% chance of success, a man named Fujisawa who has overcome his terminal cancer through meditation, and a girl called Kyoko who persistently self harms. And through these various encounters, Hikawa starts to see that his path to recovery may differ from that of other people. And all the while, the cancer is gnawing away at his insides.
'But, I don't want to die...'
Hikawa confronts his destiny in search of his own cure.
